Chevron's NOx Reduction Project was initiated in 1997 when a team of company personnel and consultants were assembled to evaluate, recommend, and implement emission reduction technologies that would allow the refinery to achieve its compliance goals in a timely and cost-effective manner. Jerry Lang served as a Combustion Consultant, reviewing and recommending emission control systems for various areas of the refinery including Chevron’s Power Plant #1 (four D.B. Riley 140,000 lb/hr water-tube boilers and one Babcock & Wilcox 180,000 lb/hr water-tube boiler). Following an extensive test period that clearly demonstrated the viability of a new NOx reduction technology on one of the power plant boilers, Chevron retrofitted all of the remaining boilers in Power Plant #1 during the first six months of 2000. JLCC provided on-site quality control and supervision during installation and initial startup. Overall NOx emissions from the boilers at Chevron’s Power Plant #1 has been reduced by almost 95% as a direct result of this work. This project was the topic for a case study by Todd Combustion; click here for details. Have questions, or would like references? Please email jerry@knocksout.com |
